If one wishes to get a relief from the severe heats of Central India then Pachmarhi is the ideal place to go. The veracity of this statement is underscored by the simple fact that Pachmarhi happens to be the only hill stations found in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The valley of Pachmarhi in the Satpura Ranges is very interestingly shaped in the shape of a saucer. The importance and potential of this city as a health resort was recognised by the famous captain of Bengal Lancers, Forsyth, in the year of historical year of first mutiny, 1857. Earlier the point from where Captain Forsyth saw Pachmarhi was given his name but later on it was changed to the Priyadarshni point to give it an Indian touch. Having been developed by the Britons as a hill station and resort, the old world charm of the colonial era has not left this place.
One can reach Pachmarhi through using different means f transportation like airways, roadways and railways. Though there is no airport in the city of Pachmarhi, there is an airport in the capital of Madhya Pradesh, which is at a distance of 200 kms. Despite the fact that Pachmarhi is a hill resort, it is blessed by an excellent road network connecting it to all cities of Madhya Pradesh including the major cities of Bhopal, Indore and Gwalior. The closest railway station to Pachmarhi is Pipariya which is at a distance of 47 kms from Pipariya.
There are many popular destinations that lures in huge flocks of tourists every year. The Catholic Church which was built by the Britons in the year of 1892 has a cemetery where in one can see graves where the inscriptions on the headstones are as old as 1959. The ancientness of this church is apparent from the Belgian stained glasses used in the windows. Another very popular church found here is the Christ Church that was built in the year of 1875. Many consider it to be the most beautiful church of Madhya Pradesh. A lot of imagination and effort has been used in the clever construction of this church and this is quite easily apparent from the hemispherical dome and the stained –glass panes, imported from Europe, used for decorating walls. Te Satpura national Park that was initiated in the year of 1981s gives the visitors and the students of wildlife a chance to enjoy the plethora of flora and fauna that could be found here. In Satpura National Park one could get a chance to enjoy the Sal, Bamboo and Teak trees along with animals like tiers, leopards and different species of birds. In addition to these other popular tourist attractions are the Bison Lodge and the Pandav caves.
